Quaglinos

case study

Quaglinos is one of the most iconic restaurants in London, to be involved with such a significant refurbishment project was an opportunity not to be missed.

With a budget approaching £3 million, the client wanted to revitalise the venue whilst retaining the original art deco features. Maximising the impact of focal points such as the sweeping curved staircase leading down to the bar, and the imposing columns in the main dining area was a challenge we embraced.

We had 10 days to create the desired effect, around 120 square metres of Venetian Plaster to apply, three men working on the project and a budget of c.£10,000.

Using Spatulato throughout, we revitalised the tired dining room columns, giving them a sophisticated marble finish and thus imposing upon them the sense of grandeur and majesty they deserve.

For the curved walls and columns in the bar area we used a gleaming black that effortlessly conveys contemporary style and well-founded confidence.

Producing the exact shade of cream for the dining room columns was a painstaking process, and their height and circumference posed a few challenges too, not least because of underlying paint that had been used previously. Once we’d changed the backing plaster and painstakingly built layer upon layer of the new Polished Plaster finish, we achieved an end result to be proud of – and which delighted everyone involved.
